‘“Wait” displays the idea of what we do with our relationships when the end of the world is near. The connections between the characters represent three types of relationships: one’s relationship with their sibling, with their significant other, and with themselves. Although the situation depicted is purely fictional, it was meant to draw similarities to the severity of topics of concern that relate to global warming, such as melting icecaps, wildfires, deforestation, polluted oceans, and the decrease in bee populations. Although the topic of concern in “Wait” is a meteor strike, I wanted to mimic the idea of us as a human race running out of time to solve the issues at hand.”

Maya Dayal is a senior at Gallatin studying social issues and visual media. After moving to NYC from Toledo, Ohio, Maya decided to focus on race, gender, and religious relations, and the ways in which these three topics have been depicted over time. After growing up watching many documentaries and traveling to various countries to learn about the environment and the culture of the native populations, Maya became interested in documentary film. She always loved learning about new ways of life and about the events that have impacted nations all over the world, and hopes to one day work for companies such as National Geographic or Discovery Channel. “Wait” is her first and only short film, but Maya hopes to make many more in the future.
