Sept. 9, 2020 – Alison O’Daniel named as one of six 2020 Points North Fellows. “The Points North Fellowship brings six teams of early- and mid-career filmmakers to accelerate the development of their feature documentary, culminating in the public presentation of works-in-progress at the Points North Pitch. The Points North Fellowship aims to strengthen filmmakers’ artistic voices and propel their careers forward by facilitating new relationships with mentors, collaborators and funders. We believe that a strong community of support is vital for independent filmmakers who are taking creative risks and expanding the possibilities of documentary cinema.”

Generative Misunderstanding: Interview with Alison O’Daniel
Anne Ellegood for BOMB Magazine
August 14, 2018

“The process of creating the captions in my film has been the most generative. Every single edit considers the fact that I have an audience with a range of hearing experiences. While I require captions for films, I also sometimes feel like the captions “raise” a Deaf or HoH person’s experience to a hearing experience. And while I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have captions (WE SHOULD), I do wish that more HoH and Deaf people were determining the value system from which they are developed.” – Alison O’Daniel
