Foundation for Spirituality and the Arts was recently founded as a not-for-profit organization, to nurture connections between spirituality and the arts, including visual arts, performing arts, and literary and intellectual fields in the United States, Asia, and internationally. Based in New York City and Charleston, South Carolina, FSA is dedicated to supporting artists and art professionals working in diverse media and disciplines whose practices explore the intersection of faith and artistic expression. Description of Fellowship:
The position is available immediately and requires a 3 to 6-month commitment open to recently graduated BA or MA level professionals or current Graduate-level students. Up to 30 hours per week—at the organization’s office and partial offsite work (based on advanced agreement is expected).
With a stipend of $400 per month (total of $2500), the Fellowship offers extraordinary hands-on experience working in connection with and exposure to diverse prominent professionals in the local and international contemporary art and culture, spiritual, and religious fields. Fellows will work in close supervision and mentorship with the FSA’s Programs Director with a track record of over 20 years of art education and curatorial achievements in the United States, Asia, and elsewhere.
The Fellow will contribute towards the general conceptualization, planning, and organization of FSA’s curatorial and educational programs in conjunction with its fundraising and PR campaigns. The fellow will support the development of appropriate language/concept statements, and image selection in the process of designing FSA’s website to serve as its initial public interface. Conduct research and implement the selection process for the FSA Artists Residency Program in Charleston, South Carolina, to be accompanied by a constellation of events in New York and other cities, including online programs in collaboration with leading galleries, museums, and faith-based and academic institutions.
Tasks may include coordination, communication, program development, and presentation formats, promotion, and administrative support, such as researching artists and strategizing programmatic direction, fundraising outreach, and publicity-content development.
Serving as one of FSA’s main correspondents, the Fellow will gain extensive practice drafting emails, proposals, contracts, and other communication documents between FSA artists, arts professionals, and collaborating institutions. Other responsibilities include launching and managing FSA’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), alongside design and submission of ads and email e-blast campaigns and newsletters (Mailchimp) in support of FSA’s audience maintenance and development initiatives. (mailing lists management, scheduling, archiving, and data entry). Opportunity to attend and mingle with FSA partner art and cultural events and openings during the duration of their fellowship.
Desired Skills:
This fellowship requires a dedicated and self-motivated individual who is a strong team player. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in one or more of these fields: curatorial work, arts administration, religion, and spiritual studies, PR and marketing, and education.
Applicants should possess savvy writing skills generating blurbs/descriptions for artworks, the capacity to draft press releases/press stories, the ability to tap into art press networks (including newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc.), strong organizational skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Online presentation and hosting skills via ZOOM, Google Meet, and other platforms are required. Knowledge of contemporary and religious art in Asia and beyond is a plus. Ability to manage branding and digital design marketing tools such as email campaigns (Mailchimp) and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) a must. Strong computer literacy is required (Mac / PC, Microsoft Office). Experience with HTML, WordPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and general graphic design skills are a must.
