Earth Celebrations is a non-profit organization, founded by social action artist Felicia Young in 1991 on the Lower East Side of New York City to engage communities to effect ecological, policy and social change through the arts. For 30 years Earth Celebrations has pioneered cultural strategies, applying the inspirational power of the arts to build community, collaboration and action on vital environmental issues. Our cultural and action projects build broad-based coalitions and diverse sector partnerships with organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, schools, and residents to work together creatively to address vital environmental issues affecting people’s lives and their community, mobilize action, develop solutions and generate impact and change.

Description of Internship
Earth Celebrations is a non-profit organization based on the Lower East Side of New York City, engaging communities to generate ecological and social change through the arts.
Internships are available to work on ECOLOGICAL CITY, applying our pioneering creative cultural organizing strategies on the Lower East Side of New York City to develop and bring climate resiliency and ecological sustainability solutions within the gardens, neighborhood and waterfront on the Lower East Side of New York City.
Community residents collaborate with artists through workshops developing visual arts and performance projects exploring neighborhood sites and their climate solutions. Works are featured in a culminating theatrical pageant with a procession and 15 site performances throughout the neighborhood.
Desired Skills for Internship
Seeking interns with skills, interest and background in: civic engagement, community outreach, advocacy/activism, theatrical/arts/event production, logistics management, graphic and web design, social media, photography/video and interest in the arts, community organizing, environmental, urban planning, activism and climate issues.

Generally interns commit to 4 hours per week and volunteers join for specific events, workshops and actions.
