Residents enjoyed Year of the Pig festivities inspired by Chinese Lunar New Year’s traditions including food to taste.
Part of the Downtown Culture Series featuring cultural traditions celebrated in and around our neighborhood.
Activities included:
Performance: Lion Dance, New York Chinese Freemasons Athletic Club
Performance featuring a dance and instrumental team is a tradition believed to bring good luck. More information about the tradition, history and symbolism of the lion dance can be found here.
Calligraphy Activity, New York Chinese Cultural Center
Learning how to write Chinese characters with brush and ink.
Family Storytime, Graduate Students from NYU Steinhard Project Developing Chinese Language Teacher
Join small groups to explore thematic picture books and stories in an informal setting. Recommended for children from 3 to 5 years old. Parents or other guardians are expected to provide supervision of minors in their care.
