Composting, Birding, Swapping and More
Thank you Earth Matter NY, Washington Square Park Eco Projects, Community Agriculture Club, University Residents of Washington Square Village, and Work Life for making our Spring Into Action Day a great success.
Our Spring Into Action Day community event held in honor of Earth Day builds on NYU Faculty Housing’s efforts to reduce our impact on the environment, including:
- Reducing landfill waste by implementing a Sasaki Garden recycling program and organics collection services in Silver Towers and Washington Square Village, which also reduces ozone-depleting methane leading to global warming while compost also provides the earth a nutrient rich resource;
- Decreasing harmful CO2 emissions caused by vehicle fuel overuse and expenditure with expansion of bike storage racks (185 new parking spaces) within half of the buildings in our portfolio and increasing capacity by about 30% over two years;
- Promoting energy conservation with major efficiency renovation upgrades including full roof and window replacements in Washington Square Village, Silver Towers and 7-13 Washington Square North;
- Supporting sustainable land use through events with the Community Agriculture Club and the Urban Farm Lab to provide opportunities for our residents to be involved in agriculture, gardening, yard waste composting and environmental education.
