Two films I had the fortune of working on will be part of this year’s BFI London Film Festival.
Eryk Rocha’s Burning Night (Breve Miragem de Sol) will have its world premiere at the festival. I had a terrific time working with the director on the screenplay of the film, setting up a dramatic foundation for his improvisational, documentary-infused practice. The film is the result of that very friction and uses the city of Rio de Janeiro as more than a stage. Burning Night plays tomorrow and Saturday, and the director and members of the cast will be there to introduce the screenings.
The festival will also host screenings of Gabriel Mascaro’s Divine Love (Divino Amor), in which I worked as a script consultant. Divine Love premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, was screened shortly after at the Berlinale, and had a good theatrical run in Brazil.
