NYU Information Technology and the NYU Web Publishing Team have completed a Spring Cleaning timeline, plus a plugin and theme audit, and we’ve identified new features that we will implement according to the following schedule:
On May 20th, 2016, we will update the Web Publishing service to the latest version of WordPress and we will integrate Jetpack, a plugin that offers lots of exciting new features.
On May 27th, we will add approximately 20 new themes to the service and remove a number of outdated themes and plugins.
On June 6th, all sites that have not been updated in more than a year (since May 19th, 2015), as well as sites that are still owned by alumni, will be permanently deleted from the service. No backup will be available. Be sure to transfer your site’s ownership to a current user or export your site.
On July 1st, the remainder of outdated plugins and themes will be removed from the service.
What you have to do?
- If you have a Web Publishing site that has not been updated since May 19th, 2015 and –
- would like to keep that site, please log in to that WP site and make a small change or edit. Any sites that have not been updated in more than a year from 5/19/16 will be permanently deleted from the service. No backup will be available.
- would like to export your site, please follow these instructions on how to export your site.
- If you are using the Social Media plugin, the Contact Form plugin, or one of the themes that are being removed, please follow the linked instructions to make sure you don’t lose any content or customizations.
- If you are an alumni or if you use a site owned by an alumni and require that your site remains live, please update the site owner to a current faculty, staff or student netID before May 27th or the site will be deleted and no backup will be available.
