Overview of Artifact
This artifact includes the works I have been done at my work, contributing my knowledge to Overlake Hospital Medical Center, Bellevue WA based on what I learned in 2018, NIH Stroke Scale assessment tool. This course was helpful to provide knowledge of Stroke and was able to share information with the multidisciplinary team. This artifact bridged into a research needs for my systematic review and competence project where it develops the importance of Stroke rehabilitation.
Contribute to the Newsletter
At Overlake Hospital Medical Center, where I currently work, a multi-disciplinary team creates a quarterly newsletter in Stroke Rehabilitation. During this neuro newsletter, a rehabilitation department provides the session with the article to promote carryover of the knowledge of Stroke. The goal of the article is to share the information with staff members including MDs, physicians, and nurses. During my work time, I found that sharing my knowledge is very important to other disciplines. We met once a week for two months period to discuss topics of the Newsletter, the needs of the knowledge stroke, and important facts about Stroke in the Acute Care setting. Evidence-based class at NYU and an NIH scale course helped me to share my knowledge on how to promote independence in the acute care setting and awareness of stroke. I discussed my knowledge based on the courses I took in 2018. This newsletter was published in the hospital in January 2021.
Certificate of Completion on NIH Stroke Scale on September 13th, 2018
National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is a systematic assessment tool that provides a quantitative measure of the stroke-related level of neurologic deficits such as prior weakness, hemi- or quadriplegia, blindness, etc. This course was able to administer the stroke scale accurately and record performance in each category after each sub-scale assessment.
This course provided me with an understanding of research-based assessment as well as knowledge of stroke. This course was beneficial for me as an Occupational Therapist to accurately administer the functional and neurological level of the client.
This course focuses on perspectives of the geriatric population in America, this artifact fits into my goal where it improves my practice both culturally and clinically in stroke rehabilitation in the acute care setting.
Based on the course I took in the past, I integrated my knowledge with a multi-disciplinary team to provide ideas that I learned from the course. This course helped me integrate more in-depth on Stroke and address needs within the hospital setting.
