Field Trip to Shenzhen ☺️✨
Inspirations from the market 🛒
¡Qué mercado tan bonito! There were many artists showing their paintings/ handcrafts. It was really hard to control my impulse to get something. I bought two earrings with Suzhou embroidery. The inspiration I got from the market is that when creating art, it would be amazing to imbed some part of your identity/ your life story inside.
@Elegoo and Manifold tech
From the visit to Elegoo, I learned more about the materials, coloring process & 3D printers. It is amazing to see how they deal away with the texture of the printed objects and color the models afterwards. Also learned that they are lunching a new product with multiple printings heads, so that you can print multiple objects together at the same time.
Manifold Tech is more about 3D scanner. The speaker recommended this amazing digital artist: Rubenfro
Valuable insights from the business side
(from the talk @HAX, it should be livebutlr.com, there was a typo in the pic)
This is a sharing given by someone from HAX. I find it very inspiring for my future career path because I always think that my interest in humanities and IMA is separated from the business/ consulting/ tech industry. However, I find that right now, more and more emphasis is put on interdisciplinary studies and business. [a side note which is not so related to this company: I’ve also seen a case that uses the meta verse to preserve traditional Chinese embroidery and theater, which is really amazing!!]
During the sharing, I was also inspired to think about the future of manual labour. Right now “blue collar” refers to those people who work in the factories and engage in hard manual labor. However, as we need to train AI with data, we do need people to sort out the data from the database and conduct fine tuning. As the speaker mentioned, they do recruit undergraduate students or graduate students with a degree in language to process the data. The worrying thing is that they only recruit a few people but the workload is huge. Moreover, I’ve read about some tech companies hiring people in Africa to process the data day and night. I feel like with the development of technology, new dynamics in the production process is generated, and the definition of “blue collar labors” might be changed. There could be a new mode of exploitation.

Field Trip to the 3D Printing Museum 🖨️👩🏻🏫
This museum is amazing!! The models on display are really well-modeled with dense detail. The Shikumen design is REALLY DETAILED, exactly what I wanted to make for my project 2. But I guess it is really hard to model these.
The display of materials are interesting as well. Although we don’t have those materials in our school (I’m not complaining heheheh Even if we have, I think it will take me a long time to learn how to work with these materials), from the museum I can learn better about the characteristics and qualities of these materials. It also inspires my interest in the study of materials, because I really want to minimize the impact on the environment while doing creative artworks. Although I am not a chem student (and I will never become one :P), it’s still very interesting and inspiring to work and interact with different materials to better present the art project.
My Visit to ART021 👩🏻🎨🎨🖼️
Many of the art critics/ artists convey the dynamics of traditional Chinese art and culture and Western style of art in the exhibition. This is, in fact, very surprising for me, as I never realized there are so many Chinese artists working on the celebration of our own cultural heritage and trying to break away of the Western domination of art. They pointed out the problems exist in China’s art sphere and inspired new artists and audiences to think about the future of art in China. | 入世:20世纪以来的中国现当代艺术
