The project conference, “Exposing Secrets: The Past, Present & Future of US National Security Whistleblowing and Government Secrecy,” took place on 17-18 January 2019 at NYU London. Organised by Kaeten Mistry and Hannah Gurman, the event included scholars, whistleblowers, journalists, lawyers, advocates, and the general public.
The keynote panel on “Whistleblowing and the Press” featured US intelligence community whistleblowers, Edward Snowden and John Kiriakou, and The Guardian journalist Ewen MacAskill, in conversation with Kaeten Mistry.
Speakers included representatives from whistleblowing advocates and NGO’s the Government Accountability Project, Whistleblowing International Network, Protect, and Blueprint for Free Speech, as well as scholars from history, international relations, law, sociology, communications, and business.
