Hello and Welcome!

Dear Students,

On behalf of the Wagner Planner, welcome to the NYU Wagner graduate Urban Planning Program’s fall 2020 semester!  Whether it is your first term or you are continuing your studies, we are thrilled to count you as part of our community.

As you may already know, the Wagner Planner is the student-led journal of the Urban Planning Student Association (UPSA).  It serves as a platform for students to exercise and share their research, knowledge, and storytelling skills with their fellow students, faculty, alums, and the public. The power of urban planning is more than just numbers, graphs, and maps alone, as such the Wagner Planner provides students the opportunity to write about topics that they are passionate about and contribute to how we shape cities.

As we consider this idea, we must also acknowledge that we are currently living through a defining moment and we must aim to explore and understand how planning practices have impacted BIPOC communities and how emergency events continue to disproportionately affect the already vulnerable.  Our observations, critiques, and findings strive to give us a way to navigate forward and reshape these realities.

If you are interested in being a part of the Wagner Planner team as a Staff Writer, please fill out this form by Tuesday, September 22. Staff role descriptions and guidelines are here. After a week of considering applications, we’ll bring staff on board.  If you’re interested in submitting, but are not able to write once per month, no problem. Send an email to wagnerplanner@nyu.edu and we will work with you.

If you are interested in following the Wagner Planner for weekly content, please subscribe to the MasterPlan, UPSA’s weekly newsletter, or follow us on our Twitter or Facebook pages.

Once again welcome and we hope you join us as we strive towards telling the story of cities.

Regards,

Mayelly Moreno, MUP 2021                                                                      (Editor-in-Chief, Wagner Planner)
