To the Incoming Planners:
Hey and welcome! My name is Mariano and I’m the 2017 – 2018 Chairperson of the Urban Planning Student Association. The Urban Planning Student Association (UPSA) is one of the foremost student groups within the Wagner Planning Program that acts as a liaison between the MUP students, faculty, and program directors at Wagner. UPSA has passionate students from all around the world with varying interests, experiences, and skillsets.
Our mission is to improve and enhance the MUP academic program by offering opportunities for greater professional development. We want to go beyond the classroom, with conferences, movie screenings, and networking events; we strongly believe this helps our community collectively grow. UPSA also encourages students to share insights on their experiences and academic research through The Wagner Planner, our very own independent student journal publication. We believe this constant exchange of ideas will strengthen our network.
Most importantly, UPSA is committed to transparency and community engagement. As with the planning of cities, our work will reach its full potential only with your participation. We encourage an open door policy. So, please, feel free to reach out to any of us on the UPSA Board if you have an idea (or a lot!) of what would you like to see from the MUP Program, and/or what fun events you would like to participate in, in the benefit of the entire MUP community.
I speak for everyone at the Board by saying that we are excited to work with you; don’t be a stranger! Get informed, get involved, we’re cool, and it’ll be fun!
