A. Concept
Like I have explained in the presentation, I have been staying at home since the beginning of the pandemic. Thus, I am surrounded by everything that throws me back to my high school memories. So I chose to record the sounds that could well represent my high school life. Overall speaking, all of the audios focused on both the actual sounds and the objects’ intended usages. I did polish the audios a little bit, like lowering the volume of one audio for another to pop up or cut out some parts that I thought were unsatisfied. However, I purposely did not adjust the sound into forms that purely for blemishing with other audios. I wanted to let listeners hear the original sound of each audio while connecting all of them.
B. Process
In this project, I have used the sounds of air-conditioner, shooting on a camera, opening a pack of snack, turning on a lamp, starting the car engine, clicking pen cap, a clock ticking, tapping on flute, getting ice cubes, playing a chord on the piano, flipping book pages, running, typing on the laptop, writing on a piece of paper, drawing on a canvas board. I thought all these audios could represent my busy high school life. For all of these audios, I put my phone near to capture more exact sounds. However, while I was recording them, it was hard for me to find a perfect setting with background noise. With several tries, I then found out that maybe nighttime, where there is no vehicle running or random noises, would be a better time to record the audios. So then I stayed up late and recorded all the audios.
For the editing process, I found it hard to arrange the audios. I wanted to place them coherently, so I had to move things around to make it more satisfying. Before this project, I did not know how to use Adobe Audition. To do this project, I had to learn the techniques of using this app. So I would say the biggest takeaway of this project is I learned how to use Audition, at least the necessary applications.
C. Conclusion
If I had more time, I would choose to put my audios in a sequence that my daily life looked like. I tried to stay in a timely row. However, it did not sound satisfying to me, so I dislocated some of them. I think if I use more techniques, they can sound unified. I remember Professor said he could not tell how many tracks I had in the piece. I think maybe I did not succeed to let some pop up while lowering the volume of other tracks.
