For my diptych project, I combined two ukulele photographs that I took under the same setting. While I was adjusting the setting, I accidentally found out that my piano board has a nice reflection. It seems like a mirror that reflects objects without colors. I then placed the ukulele next to the piano and captured multiple images with slightly different ISO and apertures. I have gotten feedback from my friends saying that both pictures look like they are persuading a dark meaning. I then realized that the light was too dim, so I highlighted the image one slightly and let the image two remained the same. Thus, the final collage image shows a little bit of contrast between the first and second images.
For the first image, which takes up the bigger portion of the project, I cropped the original image to exclude the background portion and make the ukulele stand out more. I then rotated the image 90 degrees to lay it down. And then, I highlighted the ukulele’s body part to give it a warmer and brighter look. For the second image, I used the eraser tool to clean out the rectangular edges of the original image and outlined the ukulele’s curve. I purposely placed the second image at the corner of the first to cover the first image’s control board because it did not look much pleasing to me when the control board was there.
The most significant step I have taken for this project was learning and practicing how to use the eraser tool. This is also the most challenging step in the editing part. Since the second image is small and the line is very curvy, I had no experience using the eraser tool. So I had to spend a few hours getting a seemingly perfect cut. Every small dot had to be removed for the image to look clean from a bigger scope.
If I had more time, I think I would make more edits on the second image. I think the left portion of the image looks fine, but the right part seems a little bit unfinished to me. But while I was editing it, I did not have any other ideas for adjusting it. For sure other adjustments would also be possible.
