Challenge 3 – Final Presentation

This is the final presentation for my Galaxy Buds case. To start, there were a few challenges that I ran into while making the presentation. One, sometimes the render would end up looking different from how the in-canvas render looked. For instance, the lighting would mess up the model somehow and so some of the renders looked less clean or realistic compared to others (as seen in the last slide). Additionally, I kept rerendering and repositioning the model that my project struggled to load the last time I tried to open it. I actually wanted to do a few more renders to replace some of the images I already have, but the final didn’t open.

Positioning and matching the lighting to an image was also quite difficult to do without using Photoshop, but in the end it managed to look not too bad (the keychain contextual image still looks off though). Finally, a challenge I faced outside of the presentation was definitely remembering to ground or unground, and then there was the issue where the lid somehow become bigger after moving it.

Challenge 3 – Galaxy Buds Case Update 2

Since the last update, I have worked on the hinge of the actual case, added the charging port, added the LED battery indicator, and cut out a piece of the silicone case for the hinge part. However, as I was working on the fabric hinge, I was struggling to find a way to connect it to the silicone case. So I was debating on changing the case to a plastic one, where it won’t need a hinge and it just snaps onto the buds case.

Challenge 3 – Galaxy Buds Case

I want to create a realistic Samsung Galaxy Buds+ case, since compared to Airpods cases there isn’t a lot of variety and the Galaxy Buds cases are a lot more expensive. For this week’s update, I added some details, like the front indent of the case, the earbuds hole in the lid, but I spent most of my time working on the hinge of the actual case of the Galaxy Buds. There was a lot of trial and error in creating the hinge, but I managed to get it to move the way I want it. However, there’s still a lot of fixing to do because the hinge is too big so it isn’t flush when the lid closes.

Fusion 360 – Rendering

This is my rendering of the mug from class. I tried searching for the enamel material, but I don’t think I had it so I ended up using frosted glass. I actually rendered this twice on my laptop and it took probably 6+ hours to do both renders. So for the Grabcad model, I used a computer and each render took roughly 10 minutes. Since it was way faster, I was able to test out different positions and backgrounds and render multiple times.

My Problem, My Solution! Update 3

Not much has changed since the last prototype. I actually recreated the box so the edges were cleaner and I also tested out the latch idea for the lid. For the edges of the box, I tried cutting out bits of one of the edges so when it folds up it’s more flushed (unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of this process). For the flap, I cut out a small rectangular hole in the lid flap and then attached another rectangular piece of foam core onto the box. The rectangular hole was about the same size as the foam core thickness, so I just had to figure out how big the latch on the box should be. It’s kind of difficult to get both sides in the latch, so this lid design needs further improvements.

Challenge 2 – My Problem, My Solution!

I came up with several problems, but the two I decided to focus on are related to reaching and painting. The first problem is that all the blinds in my house are the type to push up and pull down, so it gets difficult for me when the blinds are pushed too far up. This is especially a problem for certain windows in my house because they are behind furniture, so I have to climb the furniture to pull it down or get help. The second problem is a specific one and not an everyday problem, but I’ve noticed that sometimes when I paint I struggle to find a place to put brushes that I’ve used and need to use later.
