The final product is very different from my initial idea and project proposal. I actually kept on changing ideas throughout the process. Originally, I wanted to use PoseNet and have the user cut the tree. The idea kept evolving– from using music to grow the tree, to the ml5 library sound classifier.
Project III – Data Visualization
For this project, I decided to do a color analysis of one of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings, A Wheatfield With Cypresses. This data visualization shows the percentage of how much a color is used in the painting.
Project II – Interactive Experience: Flying With Kiki
initial process
The final outcome was a completely different vision than what we originally planned. However, we knew that we wanted to create a game, so it was a debate between “A Stroll With Totoro” and “Flying With Kiki.” Our initial idea was “A Stroll With Totoro” similar to the Chrome dinosaur game. While this plan was a lot simpler than Flying With Kiki, we didn’t want to clash with another group who was also inspired by the character Totoro. So, in the end we went for Flying With Kiki.

Project I – Generative Visuals
I was inspired by the mobile game “Monument Valley” by ustwo games. I tried replicating the aesthetic visuals of the game and even added the character into my project. However this is a lot simpler than the designs of “Monument Valley” and it definitely does not do justice the the beautiful visuals.
Case Study I- Generative Art
Monument Valley is a mobile puzzle game inspired by M.C. Escher’s impossible geometry. The soundtrack and visual aesthetics create a beautiful vibe that makes the game mesmerizing. This game also challenges people to think outside the box.
Artistic and aesthetic qualities
The simple background emphasizes the intricate architecture designs in each level. Since it is a mobile game, the ability to rotate or move the architecture to create a new structure is such a beautiful touch. The way this game plays with perspective and thinking outside of the box really adds to the artistic and aesthetic qualities. The calming soundtrack is a bonus.
methods or technology
Monument Valley is created by an independent studio called ustwo. There’s people working on design, digital drawing, and programming the app. In the second game, they used a program called Editor, which allowed the creators to work more efficiently while creating complex designs.
