The description and the example of ‘ambient intelligent’ made me think up my assignment one, “Smart Morning’. I think “Smart Morning is a simple and initial version of ambient intelligence that provides users with an intelligent and natural interactive service to improve people’s life. since we did not use any fabrication skills to cover or decorate the sensor and actuator, it seems not that integrated with the environment. Besides practical uses such as for home and workplace, I wonder what are some other possible tracks. I like the idea of mobile and wearable devices, but for this example, I am confused about the definition of ‘environment’. The wearable devices may use the power of nature, such as sunlight and heat, but do they intelligent enough to call it ‘ambient intelligence?
In addition, I am looking forward to seeing ambient intelligence applied in art fields. For example, an immersive experience for viewing art or as a part of the exhibition. The traditional projector for only playing videos or animation may be old-fashioned in the future years. In this case, an intelligent, immersive, and user-centered experience may be appealing to visitors and also inspiring for artists to come up with new art styles.
However, even though there are many opportunities for ambient intelligence, we still need to pay attention to threats. Humans required the feeling of staying connected and controlling the system at any time to avoid the fear of being invaded by artificial intelligence. Moreover, due to the feature of hiding electronics in the background and having the ability to recognize people, privacy is an essential issue that needs to be solved. For example, if the device manufacturer or bad people take advantage of the recognizing system/camera to monitor, video, or collect data, every moment at home would be watched or recorded by someone. Finally, I am also curious if we are surrounded by intelligent devices like “computing everywhere”, the idea mentioned in Everyware section one, can we enjoy the pleasure of life and keep exploring or just addictive to the convenience that computers give?
