The Serena Williams Project

“That’s all I have to say”

Investigation

That’s All I have to Say examines two moments from the 2018 US Open Women’s Final when Serena Williams interacted first with the chair umpire Carlos Ramos and then with two other officials for the match, Brian Earley and Donna Kelso. In the first interaction, Williams contests the point penalty, a result of the coaching violation and racket abuse, and in the second interaction, she contests the game penalty for verbal abuse.

The investigation was filmed in three iterations: Williams embodied by a white female, a white male, and a black male.
