Portraits US: Election 2024

“That’s Not a Partisan Feeling, That’s Patriotic”

Investigation

Portraits US: Election 2024 is a new interview-based project aimed at better understanding what people living and working in the United States want and expect from a President ahead of the upcoming election. VPL is currently conducting interviews that will contribute to our fall 2024 performance.

Interview F.A.Q.

What is the process if I want to be interviewed?

You can fill out our interview request form, found HERE, and someone from our interview team will contact you at the email provided.

How long will the interview take?

Interview time varies from person to person; however, we ask you to block off about an hour of your time.

Who will be conducting the interview?

A member of our team, who is trained in a specific interviewing protocol developed by VPL, will contact you and be the one to conduct the interview.

I don’t live in NYC, can I still be interviewed?

Yes! Interviews can take place virtually through Zoom.

Can my responses be confidential?

During the interview process, the interviewer will ask how you’d like to be identified in the scripting process. You can choose to use your name or a pseudonym.

What kinds of questions will you ask and can I see them before the interview?

The questions range from asking about memories and experiences having to do with the electoral process, to thoughts and opinions about the office of the US presidency. You will not be provided with the questions before the interview as we are looking to gather organic responses. Rest assured, that there are no right or wrong answers and you can choose not to answer any questions.

Can I see some examples of what the outcome of this process might be?

Absolutely! In 2022, we conducted interviews on the topic of political polarization in the US. We recorded excerpts from those interviews and you can watch our actors perform them HERE.

Can I ask a question that is not covered in this F.A.Q.?

We’d be happy to answer it. Send us an email at verbatimperformancelab@nyu.edu
