By saying ‘fluidity of the digital’ Fred Ritchin meant that nowadays photographs can be easily manipulated to show what that person wants to show to others. Apps like adobe photoshop can be easily used in order to change the perspective of people. Compared to the past where photos are not edited, now a photo can be edited and the picture itself does not necessarily tell the truth. Below is an edited picture of a man covering one of his eye and his mouth with his hands. With the right app and tools, the parts covered is shown on top of the hands. This just shows how easily a picture can be manipulated with modern technology.
Photography is still very much capable of capturing reality as long as there is no bias when taking these pictures and there is no edits made. When people are doing their own things and the photographer takes pictures, it is when a picture shows reality at its best. With capturing reality in texts, it is much harder as people would unintentionally have bias towards how they view things. This alone will project your sayings into other people’s minds instead of letting them take in a picture and them having their own thoughts.
