A Project for the Politics of the Body and Space
I created this series for my 4D Fundamentals class this past spring during quarantine. The self-portraiture of Claude Cahun in an excerpt from “Inverted Odysseys” by Shelley Rice and Lynn Gumpert and the psychoanalytic theory about apperception by Jacques Lacan known as the “Mirror Stage” served as my inspiration. The colors and saturation of these photos are reminiscent of artist Jimmy De Sana. Through this project, I was able to contemplate the privileges and struggles I carry within my own body and psyche in the different spaces that I occupy. I also acknowledged my place in a globalized world and where I come from. In this way, I am much more than myself and merely a reflection of my surroundings.
