The hormones and gender identification

“The hormones regulate all sorts of bodily functions for all ages of people, why would we blame hormones for the teenage daughter’s sudden?” (Walsh 2004,61)

Honestly, I did not have the opportunity to take biological classes systematically before. This article gave me a sense of the Hormones and its knowledge.

Will young boys that reach puberty earlier really affect their hormones development after they become adult? Does the puberty (earlier or later) influence people’s hormones testosterone for boys and estradiol for girls?

When is the earliest time to have gender identification? Does the puberty be a symbol of gender identification? How could young boys and girls know they are different from each other? Do they naturally know or unnaturally see the difference?

The hormones exist for all ages of people, why would the hormones that happen on adolescences are particular or seemed different from the adult? Why do people blame hormones for adolescences instead of the adult, is that because adults get used to having hormones and adolescences doesn’t?

As educators, I think teachers should give students a right sense and knowledge of hormones and guidance to help them understand the hormones and gender.

How Adolescence Is Important

“Linking adolescence to childhood and adulthood.”

I think the linking adolescence to childhood and adulthood is very important and should be paid attention by educators and parents. Teenagers would develop some habits, values, and ideologies during their adolescence period because teenagers would form those habits values and thoughts from the adolescence period. And these things would impact them in the future.
What is more, accepting good education is significant for adolescence. Take myself as an example; my parents sent me to an excellent school to learn knowledge; I also cultivate some good habits, values, and ideologies. Having a good education makes people not to steal, rob or other things that vary from our social rules. I believe that bullying and taking drugs would decrease at schools when students are accepting good values and habits. I also think that how your adolescence would decide how your future would be. The adolescence period is like the starting of the life course; once you step in the right direction, you will have a prosperous future.

MVP #2: Don’t simply judge if you don’t know what is behind.

“‘Mexicans are like thieves and bad people, and we’re not really like that.’ Student demographics in the U.S. continue to show an increase in the enrollment of immigrant children in public school systems. “About 10.2 million of all students enrolled in public schools, or slightly more than 20%, speak a language other than English at home” (Fry & Gonzales, 2008, p. 11). While immigrant students provide new energy and ideas to a new school community, they also might face potential obstacles in their transition to their new schools and home communities that school counselors need to be mindful of and attentive to in their outreach and advocacy. Some obstacles students might face include adjustment issues such as transgenerational trauma (Phipps & Degges-White, 2014), conflict during racial and ethnic identity formation (Iwamoto, Negi, Partiali, & Creswell, 2013), racial microaggressions (Gabriel, 2015a, 2015b; Nadal, Escobar, Prado, David, & Haynes, 2012), and depression” (Yeh, Borrero, & Tito, 2013).

This passage highlights the increasing immigrant children in the public school system and links to the Racism and Discrimination problems. This statement is not true because it judges people by merely skin and race, which is not fair for Mexicans.
In New York City public school systems, there is a dramatically increasing enrollment of immigrant children. The Public School 94, is the school I am doing student teaching now, has 80% Chinese immigrant children and 20% Spanish & Mexican immigrant children. I do not see any white kid in our school. There are more and more public schools are operating like the PS.94, which has a majority of immigrant children from Asia and other places. The class I assistant with is a Kindergarten level class, which is an ENL class, surprisingly, over 95% of kids do not understand English, even the alphabet ABC. I believe that my students are facing many challenges such as language challenge and cultural challenge. For example, they are too young to get used to living here; they just immigrant here so everything seems different from what they were used to have; language is also a big challenge too. We have six Mexican children in our class. I treat all students as the same, providing aids when they need. Those Mexican children in our class are a little bit behind, from my observation, it could be caused by some reasons like their parents may have less care to their study or they are too young to understand knowledge in class, even they need times to get used to new language and environment. We cannot ignore the existed truth that is not every single person is super smart and learning fast.
Also, as teachers, I think we should not judge people by skins or race or nations either. If a teacher has some negative judgment on children, then the teacher might pay less attention to them even give up them, which is very unfair for children and it will impact children for their future study and life too.

How learning ability become dwingling to disabilty?

“If you have money, you can like do practically anything… You can hire a tutor to go to your house, you can hire somebody-shit! You can even pay somebody to do your testes for you! So nobody really knows if you have a learning disability or not because…
you are always hiring somebody to do things for you. I ‘d love to have a lot of money, somebody to do some things for me. I’d be lazy, f’real.
Chanell notes that disability is not a singular or universal experience because social class, for example, determines how disability is ultimately experienced. Because social class determines access to services, Chanell suggests that disability is in part a function of social class. (Gender and Education P115).

While reading this passage, I found myself wondering about the exam effects in mastering knowledge. According to “If you have money, you can hire somebody to do your tests for you”, this ‘ridiculous statement’ is harmful but true. When students have tests, they are tested because teachers want to know whether they have mastered the knowledge, whether students are able to use the knowledge to solve problems they will meet in the future. hiring somebody to do exams functions as same as plagiarism and cheating, I think. It makes students dwindle ability to learn knowledge and contents. Learning is a process of literacy, communication and comprehending, this process can help people to communicate with people and knowledge, to increase abilities in many areas, instead of just gaining high enough scores to pass exams. The goal of the exam is to see how students gained knowledge and present the levels students are stepping in. The exam is a direct approaching to present students’ learning abilities to teachers and parents. Teachers cannot know if you have mastered the knowledge or not because you hire somebody to do tests or cheating. Your “cheating” scores cannot really reflect your real ability. That is why the plagiarism and cheating are the top 2 important things in education.
