“at promise” Not “at risk”

Respond to: Re-Writing/-Righting Lives: Voices of pregnant and parenting teenagers in an alternative school
“Pregnancy itself is recast as a site of transformation that sets the course of potentially meaningful lives to unfold.”
Pregnancy itself for an adult has already been a non-easy issue to handle, no matter emotionally or physically. With outsiders looking through the lens of “at risk”, I couldn’t imagine how much a teen mom needs to bear! This article squarely gives those prejudiced people a strike that being pregnant at the very early age could also help these teen girls grow into more responsible, strong, and resourceful women. I am not saying that being a teen mom is a good thing, what I want to emphasize is that as a loving and nurturing community, in one aspect we should prevent early pregnancy through education and community support, but in another aspect we should also offer opportunities for these teen moms to thrive, to grow into mature women. As a result, they can provide quality parental care for their children, and they are also able to live quality lives economically and socially. Prejudiced eyes could bring nothing but harm. Homes, schools, buses, streets, markets, just to name a few, if these teen moms could be treated with respect and care in those places, they would certainly hold more confidence in their future. “At promise” life should be very possible outcome for these teen moms who strive to give the best to their child, and to be the best mom they can be.

  1. Hi, Szm.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I think the rates of teen mom is speeding up. Most of them choose to have abortion because they are afraid of the discrimination of others eyes. In the meantime, they do not know how to take this responsibilities, so they decide to run away. I think parents are responsible for this. I know teenagers are experiencing mental and physical development. They need parents or teachers‘ guidance about sex.
