Here is my interpretation of the mapping of The Clemente
Key
The first floor- currently displaying La Tierra Prometida with the gold lighting at the entrance. When you walk into The Clemente and turn to the right there is the LES gallery. I’ve viewed Regla:Soul of a Community and En Comunidad: Latinx Photography Now (Ahora) there.
The second floor- hold the Abrazo Interno Gallery. There I viewed Good and Bad Government, Transformation: Objects and Images in Relation, and Puppets of New York: Downtown at The Clemente there. Also, La Tierra Prometida extends throughout The Clemente and soon nationwide with a scavenger hunt of gold bricks; one can be found on the second floor.
The third floor- You can also find another gold brick on the third floor. The office of The Clemente is located there as well. There is a decorative mural of Julia de Burgos before entering the office of The Clemente. Artists in residence and organizations in residence like Mark DeGarmo Dance and Framers and Stretchers are located here.
The fourth and fifth floors- The building of The Clemente initially was built as a school in 1897. Local legend has it that it’s haunted and there were numerous sightings of a girl dressed in 20th century apparel
Basement-Legend has it in the 1970s and 1980s raves were thrown in the basement of the then abandoned building. Even Run DMC performed!
