Dr. Al-Sabah has dual academic and professional engineering careers. In addition to his work as a Research Fellow in the Urban Modelling Group-UCD, he continues to work in the field of structural design both in Ireland and other parts of the world as an associate in one of the leading international engineering consultancies (Arup). His current research is on a new steel connection. He is the PI of project “Simplified steel connection” funded by Enterprise Ireland and works on project “Advanced Manufacturing for the Assembly of Structural Steel” which is funded by Science Foundation Ireland. He is also carrying out research on in the automation of structural design process and developing a new method for the non-linear analysis of concrete structures. In addition he is supervising a PhD research in the ERC funded project “TRUSS” on “Reduction of uncertainty in assessing concrete strength of existing structures”. Dr Al-Sabah professional engineering work is focused on the structural design of challenging structures and elements. Significant projects in Ireland include the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Sean O’Casey Bridge and the new air traffic control tower at Dublin Airport.

Dr. Anh Vu Vo has extensive background experience in spatial data storage and processing strategies for aerial laser scanning. Prior to joining CUSP, Vu worked as a part-time structural engineer in Vietnam, a lecturer at the University of Architecture in Ho Chi Minh City, and as a visiting scholar at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Vu completed his PhD studies in Civil Engineering at University College Dublin. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture and a Master’s degree in Engineering Structures from the University of Melbourne, Australia.  In addition to his extensive educational background, Vu is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including First Prize in the 2015 IEEE GRSS Data Fusion Contest and the Australian Government’s Endeavor Postgraduate Award for postgraduate study.

In his position as a Senior Researcher in the Urban Modeling group, Vu assists in the creation and implementation of novel technologies and algorithms related to the capture, storage, processing, visualizing, and validating of remote sensing data and its spatio-temporal integration with other data types.

 

Brittney O'Neill

Ms. Brittney O’Neill works with Prof. Laefer’s Urban Modeling Group to help identify grant opportunities, coordinate grant submissions, aid with grant administration, conduct outreach and dissemination, coordinate events, and organize the necessary mechanisms for the undertaking of commercial work. Brittney also manages the day to day activities of the Urban Modeling group.

Brittney is an accomplished researcher with experience in linguistics, information studies, and Chinese studies. Prior to joining CUSP, Brittney was a Research Assistant at the University College Dublin in the School of Information and Library Studies Open Data Project where she worked closely with other researchers to explore the state of open data in Ireland.

Brittney has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics from the University of Victoria, Canada and a Masters of Library and Information Studies from University College Dublin, Ireland.
