Are News Outlets Next to Leave Elon Musk Twitter?

April 27, 2023 by Kailyn Rhone Leave a Comment

Multiple news outlets, such as NPR and the BBC, are quitting Twitter after Elon Musk labeled them “government-funded media” on the social media platform.

When Twitter puts a label on accounts, it does not recommend them to people, which could significantly impact the account’s online traffic. NPR was the first major news outlet to leave the platform with 52 different Twitter feeds after receiving the label “government-funded” from Mr. Musk.

Will Rage Applying Make or Break Gen Z’s Job Market?

April 5, 2023 by Kailyn Rhone Leave a Comment

A new trend among Gen Z workers called “rage applying” isn’t new to society but has become very common amidst the current economy and job market.

The concept of the buzzword term is employees applying to various roles, some having low interest or little experience in, at a rapid pace out of frustration with their current job due to being underpaid, overworked, inadequate benefits, or all of the above. The goal is to find a new job with better benefits as soon as possible and get revenge on their soon-to-be former bosses.

The trend has been partially popular on TikTok, primarily among Generation Z, as many take their horror stories to the social media app, some getting millions of views on their videos.

Chelsea McLin, a coordinator at a nonprofit organization, told CNBC Make It that she was “fed up” with her current role and decided to “rage apply” to other jobs, where she sometimes makes four to five applications a day.

“I got mad at work, and I rage applied to 15 jobs,” McLin said in a TikTok video that garnered more than 2.3 million views. “I was just overwhelmed and stressed all the time. I was like, ‘I don’t like the person I am right now. I want to move before I actually hate this job,'” McLin told CNBC Make IT.

As the main objective is to find a better job, employees also want to show their old bosses how better off they are working elsewhere. This could cause havoc when attempting to find a new role as an employee may end up in the same predicament they were in previously.

Career coach Jasmine Escalera told HuffPost those following this trend should be mindful of their energy when applying to these new roles, as it could make or break the future of their careers.

“If you do not take the time to reflect on what you really want out of your next opportunity and do your research on potential new employers, you could end up in the same loop of toxic, unfulfilling jobs,” Escalera told HuffPost.

Kanye West Yeezy Sneakers Are In High Demand But Not With Adidas

March 22, 2023 by Kailyn Rhone Leave a Comment

The controversy with rapper Kanye West’s anti-Semitic comments during a podcast led many companies to cut ties with the Yeezy designer in October, one of whom was Adidas, an German sportswear company that had a nine-year partnership with Mr. West. As the company now faces a $540 million dollar loss due to unsold Yeezy stock, online resellers say the controversy has fueled demand in their sales for the product.

John Mocadlo, CEO of Impossible Kicks, an online reseller for premium sneakers and clothing, said demand for the Yeezy sneakers had increased around 30% since October, according to CNN. The Yeezy shoes were among the highest sales and most popular brands such as Jordan sneakers and other Nike products.

Are controversial ads the new wave for fashion marketing?

February 28, 2023 by Kailyn Rhone Leave a Comment

Fashion is all about risks and Diesel is no stranger to it. Diesel started off Milan Fashion Week with a bang on February 21st as models strutted down a runway with a backdrop of 200,000 condoms.

The denim brand used a mountain of Durex condom boxes to not only draw attention to the new collection but also the importance of safe sexual intimacy.

“We like to play at Diesel, and we are serious about it,” creative director Glenn Martens said in a statement according to CNN. “Have fun, respect each other, be safe.”

As the background was seen as groundbreaking by many, it left room for some to criticize the fashion label about its decision.

“Diesel using 200,000 condoms as stage prop is crazy, fashion not beating the pollution allegations,” wrote one user on Twitter.

This wasn’t the first time Diesel had a controversial ad. Throughout the 90s, Diesel was known for promoting their brands amongst sensitive issues such as gun violence, slavery and homosexuality to name a few.

From a young man pointing a gun telling parents to teach the importance of killing to a Black man going into a pool titled ‘whites only’ in South Africa, Diesel’s history of campaign ads has proposed the current question of if other fashion brands should use controversial topics as a leverage to promote their new collections.

However, Diesel remains one of the hottest brands to date with collections sold out worldwide and a company value of almost 80 million dollars.

“What we made was provocative, funny, but also intellectual – we more or less tried to pick up on the conversation that was going on in society around us and make art of it” Jocke Jonason, an advertiser who worked closely with Diesel, told Dazed in 2016.

Critics react to Pharrell Williams as Louis Vuitton’s new creative director

February 17, 2023 by Kailyn Rhone Leave a Comment

Louis Vuitton has named Grammy winning producer, musician and designer Pharrell Williams its new men’s creative director on Tuesday, calling the songwriter a “visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion.”

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director,” Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s chairman and CEO said in a statement. “His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”

With Williams first collection to debut during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, many fashion labels and individuals in the industry react to the news of Williams succeeding Virgil Abloh, the former men’s creative director who died in November 2021 due to cancer.

Osama Chabbi, a fashion stylist and commentator, mentioned how some people were criticizing the news of the fashion luxury house appointing Williams to be the menswear creative director.

“Crazy how when a creative visionary like Pharrell Williams is appointed at a key luxury house everybody is suddenly a creative direction & design traditionalist,” Chabbi wrote on Twitter. “The mold is no longer there, there’s room for self expression and fashion is a business with KPIs, get on it.”

Robin Givhan, Senior Critic Reporter at Washington Post, is one of many who criticized the luxury brand’s decision to hire Williams.

“Abloh was groundbreaking. The choice of Williams is not,” wrote Givhan in her review.

Givhan added in her review that Louis Vuitton’s choice “suggests that a pure designer, committed…to both the technical aspects of fashion as well as its creative expression, was not enough. That’s disheartening. It’s also simply not true.”

Williams has collaborated with several fashion brands in the past such as Adidas, Moncler and Chanel. He also worked with designer Marc Jacobs on an eyewear design for Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton $2,130 fortune cookie bag isn’t worth the hype to some consumers

February 16, 2023 by Kailyn Rhone Leave a Comment

When Louis Vuitton first teased their handbag shaped as fortune cookie at spring/summer Paris fashion week, it instantly went viral with many consumers craving to purchase the bag on site.

As the $2,130 fortune cookie bag sold out within the first couple of hours of its release, some consumers are starting to realize the handbag may not be as luxurious as they once thought it was.

The handbag made out of calf leather with a detachable strap that reads “creativity listens to the heart,” doesn’t seem efficient enough to purchase for some buyers.

“As cute as this bag is… it’s not functional. Keys and a phone and it loses its shape, not good,” wrote a viewer under a review on YouTube.

This was one of the many social media comments questioning the handbag capabilities.

While many people adore the design, people prefer to splurge on an item they can use everyday, not just on a night out with friends.

“I think “cookies” mode – only for short time use – for instance New Year party,” commented a viewer under a review on YouTube.

One consumer compared the packaging of the handbag to Shein, a TK that isn’t categorized as luxury. Another commented under a TikTok about how they admire the packaging more than the actual bag.

“My fortune cookie gonna say ‘this bag was a mistake,’” commented one user under a TikTok of the handbag.
