Bed-for-Bed Forum

ORLHS

Description

The bed-for-bed forum facilitates the steps that allow students to switch rooms. It replaces a spreadsheet-based process with an automated and real-time system. In the forum, students can list their room and then search for available rooms with various criteria. They can send requests for multiple listings and the receiver can quickly review and accept or reject requests. Once a request is accepted by both students, an admin can review and update their room contracts with a single click.

Mobile Event Check-In

Student Affairs is a heavy user of an event management system called OrgSync. OrgSync has the capability of allowing students to swipe their ID cards into a device hooked up to a laptop in order to track event attendees. However, it can be cumbersome bringing a laptop to events and it will not work without an internet connection. To get around this, we developed an iOS app that synchronizes to OrgSync and collects check-ins through an ID card swiper that connects to the headphone jack of any Apple mobile device. It also works in an offline mode in case there is no internet connection! The app uses the NYU Login system, which authenticates users to make sure they are part of the NYU community. Once the event is over, check-ins can be exported in a number of ways and the app will even aggregate check-ins across multiple devices.
