Three System Administrator Tools for Automation
For better scalability and efficiency in IT system administration, three free system automation tools have been used in Tisch School of the Arts. They provide centralized system administration for Windows, Mac, and Linux clients/servers, which are Active Directory, Google Munki, and Puppet. IT staff use them to deploy software installation, system update, and customized configuration. Compared with commercial solutions, these free tools may have some limitation, but they are highly flexible and should be applicable to cost-conscious IT organizations.
