This is the final version of my poster for Wim Wender’s “Wings of Desire.” The movie is set in a rather bleak but dreamy environment which has a dual storyline of a a film being made and an angel falling in love with an acrobat. Although I played with versions of the poster both with and without the direct representation of wings, my final impulse was to use floating/falling feathers in a deconstructed and slightly unsettling manner. The angel, who observes and engages in one-sided narratives, is filmed entirely in black and white until the moment he gives up his immortality to join the mortal world at which point all comes into color.
My biggest challenge was to have enough feather to create the swirling effect and set them at a pace that set both a dream-state and turbulent state.
