The film is a modern adaptation of the Langston Hughes play of the same name, directed by NYU alum and current professor in Graduate Film, Kasi Lemmons, and starring Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, and Angela Bassett. Black Nativity tells the story of a street-wise teen from Baltimore, raised by a single mother, who travels to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives, where he embarks on a surprising spiritual journey.
