You’ve got to put your God-given capital somewhere! A new index fund has been established for those with a “Christian” ethics. I’ve put quotes on that Christian because while the new Stoxx Europe Christian Index fund bans most corporations that profit from sinful business in pornography, weapons, birth control, tobacco or gambling it includes, among other questionables, those that profit from oil. Yet to be explored in the reporting around Stoxx is that great monolith, “Christian values.” Companies like Nestlé are Christian enough to be included in the fund despite decades of boycotts over questionable practices regarding the marketing of infant formula in the developing world. The New York Times points out that the environmental impact of companies like BP and Royal Dutch Shell doesn’t seem to warrant their exclusion from the list.
