Elissa Lerner: If you’re sick of the Park51 situation, check out the latest from Ayodhya, a holy site in India, believed to be the birthplace of the Hindu deity Ram, and famous for the Babri mosque whose destruction by Hindu extremists in 1992 led to the deaths of over 2,000 people. The Allahabad High Court finally ruled, after nearly 60 years of disputes, that the land be partitioned in thirds to Hindus, Muslims, and the Nirmohi Akhara sect. (It also ruled that Lord Ram was indeed born on the site and that the original Babri mosque wasn’t really a mosque because it wasn’t built according to Islamic tenets, but hey, details.) The best part? Most of the original petitioners are dead, leaving a whole new generation of dissatisfied religious adherents to appeal the case yet again (since dividing and sharing the site apparently is not a satisfactory solution). Here’s hoping our grandchildren won’t still be arguing about the Cordoba House in 2070…
