Axum in the South.

Ann Neumann: If you’re in Georgia, or plan to be over the next two months, you should really make the time to catch Axum, the Israeli-Ethiopian hip-hop duo Judah and Tedross. They’re in the U.S. through May for a residency with a number of Jewish universities and day schools across the state. Named for the capital of the legendary Ethiopian empire that ruled the region from 400 B.C. until 900 A.D. — and the rumored site of the Arc of the Covenant — the group sings about their Jewish faith, their experience as immigrants in the Israeli city of Netanya, and their home country of Ethiopia. You can watch a video interview and a music video at Jewcy. You can read up on Ethiopian Jews and their migration to Israel here.
