Bush Declares Third Awakening

Speaking to a small group of conservative journalists on Tuesday, President Bush said that he senses a “Third Awakening” of Christian devotion currently happening in the United States. National Review‘s Rich Lowry and Kate O’Beirne were in the Oval Office during the interview and blogged the president’s comments under the heading “On Religion In America.” The Washington Post‘s Peter Baker wasn’t at the meeting, but managed write up a story for page A5 in the next day’s paper. Both Baker and the Post deserve credit for seeing the significance of such remarks and GetReligion not only recognizes their work, but also presents the questions we should all be asking about such a declaration. What, exactly, does this all mean?
