Bill Donohue, Lenny Bruce Salutes You

Jesus pooping on Bush and the flag on an episode of “South Park” doesn’t really rate as “controversy,” even if Christ did it to teach Cartman a valuable lesson about depicting the prophet Muhammad. No, that’s all business as usual. Our favorite part of the latest “South Park” scandal is the reaction of William Donohue, poobah of the conservative watchdog group, the Catholic League. As it happens, we’ve interviewed Donohue in his fancy corner office, and the guy’s a trip, sort of like a cross between Archie Bunker and Foucault, alert to subtexts of Adam-and-Steveism in the most unexpected sources. That’s why we’re delighted with his response to the Jesus-poop affair: “The ultimate hypocrite[s are]… Parker and Stone. Like little whores, they’ll sit there and grab the bucks. They’ll sit there and they’ll whine and they’ll take their shot at Jesus. That’s their stock in trade.” Not just whores — “little” whores! Imagine what fun Donohue would be on a trip to Thailand…
