“In the little church, everybody is sort of a king.” Urban blight photographer, Camilo Jose Vergara, releases a new book, How the Other Half Worships, about the world of storefront churches: make-do houses of worship contained within the shells of old KFC’s, car dealerships, or the abandoned churches and synagogues of other faiths, and pastored by working-class community members with little to no formal religious training, who nonetheless become kings of their congregations.
