A Moscow art exhibit entitled “Beware of Religion” has been deemed “insulting” and “overtly provocative” by a district court, which today fined two museum staff members for “actions tantamount to fanning ethnic and religious strife.” In January, the exhibit led to a minor religious riot, with a group of Russian Orthodoxes routing the museum and spilling paint on the exhibits, which included a Virgin Mary painted on a Coca Cola advertisement and a picture of a saint with the face cut out for visitor photo-ops.
