Lost amidst the flurry of reports on the Pope‘s latest — and probably last — selection of cardinals is this story of an attempt by right-wing cardinals already in power to crack down on what may be the gravest threat yet to the Catholic Church — altar girls. Genevieve Abdo of the Chicago Tribune reports on a conservative initiative leaked to the Catholic magazine Jesus, that would have banned girls from the altar (lest they get too comfortable up there and dream of the priesthood), dancing, and applause.
