The lighter side: #Food #Foodie #FoodPorn

The majority of the post have been about social media’s use of the # to call for advocacy but in my, about me page, I promised to add some lighter topics. This is the first of those post, it’s something we all take part in food!

I have gone back and forth being a vegetarian and not for most of my life, I currently eat only vegetables about 90% of the time. I’ve tried a good amount of the delivery services such as Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, I find these to be convenient options but sometimes they get a little over-focused on a single ingredient this summer it was green beans. I am sorry but I just can’t seem to make myself like green beans, I can’t be the only one that feels this way.

I am also one of those people that when they travel, the very first place they look for restaurants is Yelp. Yelp has flaws and I can recognize that it is far from a perfect system, but one of my favorite aspects is the user’s ability to post their own photos. I believe these photos can give you a little insight into what you might expect upon arrival.

Yelp and food bloggers have created a small sense of accountability in the foodservice industry that may not have existed in years past. I think back to a client I had during my finance days, she was a good chef and had run a catering business for years. But she was very abrasive and if you didn’t know her you could rather easily think she was one of the meanest people walking the streets. When she told me she was opening a restaurant I knew things would end badly and they did. Her Yelp reviews were legendary and included tales of her acting like a tyrant and channeling her inner Gordon Ramsey calling people “Iddiot Sandwiches.” Without a service such as Yelp and many #foodies writing reviews about her, she may have made it more than 6 months, but she ignored the comments and the ship quickly sank.

While food bloggers and Yelp reviewers are generally not calling for action, their post should not be taken lightly and have the ability to make or break a business.

Here are some of my own personal #FoodPorn pics I hope you enjoy them.
