Composting Considered: Organics, Power, and Pragmatism in the U.S. Present Moment
This talk will discuss the role of composting, and all that this term means with regard to infrastructures, economic systems, material characteristics, land and practices in the early 2020s in the United States, grounded in New York City’s experience. Drawing from an applied background in public works; perspectives rooted in critical discard studies, pragmatist and other philosophies; and materials/life science(s), Samantha will discuss massive tensions and contradictions that make safe, nourishing, and just composting both essential, and imperiled.
