Julius Hemphill : Composer

Cover art for original L.P. release

Julius Hemphill, Dogon A.D. (Mbari, 1972)

Julius Hemphill : Composer is a website that was designed to support researchers and artists who want to make new publications about, and recordings, performances, editions, and interpretations of, the music of composer and saxophonist Julius Hemphill (1938–1995). The website is an ancillary resource relating to the Julius Hemphill Papers in the Downtown Collection at New York University Special Collections.

The website offers unique resources for research, including an Annotated Composition List, which encompasses Hemphill’s entire compositional corpus as it is known to date, and an annotated list of Archival Audiovisual Material, which documents the individual works found on the archival recordings held in the Hemphill Papers.
