This week, instead of recreating an object, I decided to use all my previous creations in one big image. This whole project has had the goal of creating a library of objects to fill out scenes and this was the final result.
To start, I organized all the project files into one and organized them by the order they were created.
Next, I had to deal with scale. All of them were built at their own scale so almost none of them matched up. (Seriously, the ladder is so small and I have no idea why.) To get them all to scale, I used the super secret, industry insider technique of “eyeballing it”.
Next, I had to figure out an idea for the scene. From the start, I had the idea of a city street so I went out and got a reference photo.
My goal wasn’t to recreate it, but to use it as a reference for the scale of the street. Next, laid out all the objects and modelled out a basic building. I also got some lighting working.
Next, all that was left was lighting touchups, position tweaking, adding additional background buildings, and adjusting angles.
Rendering the background transparent revealed some more holes to patch.
I finally landed on a render and was finished.
Overall, I think this project was a big success. I learned so much about Blender and 3D modelling. From lighting, texturing, aligning organizing and even rendering. I think I can now consider myself kind of okay at modelling.
