Phase 2, Post 6.

Chancey spokes for braille users and accused some inequality faced by them.  For example, as she referred as “Dark Pattern” in twitter, one of the function that converts images into text descriptions, however, it’s disabled by default. so few people know this function, which discourages blind users. In my freshman year, in EG1003, a class that require a final project called RAD (Rapid Assembly and Design), my team design something that can convert text to images for kids. I hope I were informed that twitter have this function, so that reversely we can “borrow” their AI database to translate texts into images (we nearly failed the entire project because it’s so hard to find a AI database so that we need to input limited words and images into the app. Such feature for people in need (visual impaired people specifically) should be known by everyone, so sad that twitter tried to hide it…

In Max’s talk, I think what he means by saying “cede authority to algorithm” is that some company may “intentionally” set limitations and inequality standard for LGBTQ groups, and finally the result got from all these algorithms breaks their rules which we don’t know if they did it on purpose or not. I think LGBTQ groups are just normal people… It’s just a preference, but many people don’t understand and only care about the perspectives they strongly believes in (extremely conservative and old school), all those people need to be reeducated.
