Phase 2, Post 3, Tucker’s Shift in Her Work

In her presentation, she said that the painting “Mount Fuji Flowers” was a turning point of her, but it’s too abstract for me to reflect the shift which she states that she consider more of the stuff around our life. One of the image in the slides is a Deebot robotic vacuum. It’s something that matches her point that some technology are more “anthropomorphic”. During the Pandemic and quarantine time, since I have a similar iRobot which does the same job, I can tell it’s a totally different impression to use such a vacuum. It saves time, and can go underneath the bed where we cannot easily get into. The trend is that more and more home appliances will be like that. It’s a double edged sword though, such anthropomorphic items, such as Alexa, diminishes our human to human interactions. Sometime they even gave us the wrongful concept that they are “human” around us. One of the lady, who suffered from suffocating because of Covid-19, asked Alexa for help, and finally died alone at home… It’s a tragic, but it cannot be stopped.
