The incubator of NYU reminded me of a “college for old people” in my hometown in China. The worst enemy of people when they get older is not poverty or anything related to money, it’s loneliness that makes them losing faith in life. In the college of my hometown, they offer a variety of courses such as cooking, Gateball, stitching and Chinese opera. My grandma signed up for a typing class years ago so now she can type with a keyboard, and chat with us through social media accounts. In the incubator, I don’t know the exact curriculum of the old people there, but as least they have friends to share stories. One thing I want to mention is the usage of modern technologies, many old people lack knowledge of using phones or laptops, and some functions may improve their life greatly ( such as games), so teaching them technology based courses will change this scenario.
