Gina Vitori – Fall 13
In what city or town did you grow up in?
Northport, NY
Where are you currently living?
Los Angeles, CA
What was your major?
Acting
Why did you choose to study away at NYU Sydney?
I wanted to experience living outside of New York! The beach, sun, and adventure was always a draw to me, so Sydney seemed like the perfect choice. The accents are amazing too.
How would you describe your experience at NYU Sydney?
One of the best times of my life. Truly. Sometimes I think back, and feel like it was all a dream. Not only did I make some great friends and have awesome experiences, studying abroad helps you grow in ways that you wouldn’t expect. Being from Long Island originally, and going to the city for college, studying abroad was my first *real* experience leaving the nest. All with the comfort of knowing that NYU and the amazing team at the Sydney campus was right there to support me.
What was your favorite class and why?
There were so many good classes! I think I might have to go with either my Creative Writing class, or my Environmental Journalism class. I learned a lot about the environment, and developed new practical skills in that journalism class, but I loved creative writing because I was pushed to actively capture what I was experiencing in Sydney. Now I have those bits of writing the remember and reflect upon my good times, and even bad times too.
What was your favorite trip, excursion (Student Life or class related)?
This is so hard to answer! I LOVED the trip to the blue mountains. That might have been the coolest one. Taking the boat around the harbor when we first got there, and seeing the Opera House for the first time was unforgettable, as well as the group surfing lesson.
Where are you currently working/studying?
I am currently in Los Angeles, pursuing acting
When thinking about your experience at NYU Sydney what stands out to you most?
Just being with everyone, studying in The Rocks, eating Tim Tams, and going on group outings. It really felt like a family.
How has your experience at NYU Sydney impacted life after college?
It’s definitely brought out my sense of adventure and independence. I took my first solo backpacking trips while studying abroad in Sydney, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s given my the confidence to be bold and go for the things I want to do, even if not everybody was on board. To be my own person, and explore that which fascinates and excites me.
