NYU Waste Week 2021

Join us for Waste Week: November 15-19, 2021!

This week will feature waste-related programs from tabling to social media; from a panel discussion to a repair workshop. Do you ever think about waste? What happens to what you dispose? Where does it go? And how can you reduce your own waste amidst a culture of consumerism? This Waste Week, we’ll explore the nuances of waste, with events and activities related to personal waste generation (home composting, anyone?) and waste inequity and politics in NYC.

Here’s the week’s agenda:

WASTE WEEK KICK-OFF TABLING

Bring us all your questions about waste and answer some waste trivia to win prizes!

Throughout the day, we’ll be featuring our Waste Education Coordinator, Lily Kunkel, on the NYUGreen Instagram. Lily will answer questions and show resources on and around campus for reducing your waste. 

 

WASTE EQUITY PANEL
Tuesday November 16 | 5-6pm EST | Register on Zoom

The issues of waste–where it’s generated, how it’s transported, and ultimately, where it ends up–has an impact on the environment, people, and public health. Join us for a panel on waste inequity, justice, and politics, featuring panelists with experience specific to New York City. Panelists include: Wylie Goodman, Senior Economic Development Planner at Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (former Chair for the Queens Solid Waste Advisory Board and Board Member of Earth Matter); Dior St. Hillaire, Founder of and Waste Educator with GreenFeen; and Bella Rabinovich, Project Assistant at The NYC Compost Project hosted by Big Reuse.

 

POSTPONED: WASTE EXPO AND ECO FAIR

The Expo and Eco Fair will include interactive activities from sustainability-related groups on campus will be postponed until the Spring semester.

 

CLOTHING REPAIR WORKSHOP
Thursday, November 18 | 5-7pm EST | Silverstein Lounge (32 Waverly Place)

Join Gallatin Science, Technology Arts + Creativity (STAC) to learn ways to easily mend and repair your clothing to give them a second life.

 

GREEN ZONE+
Friday, November 19 | 1-3pm EST | Kimmel Room 703 | Register to attend

Join our session on the intersection of social justice and sustainability. This special event is in partnership with the Center for Student Life and will be featured as part of the International Education Week program. Attendees can come to share and reflect on international perspectives and connect the content to waste issues in the US and abroad.
