Meet the Newest Additions to Our Team!

Tess von Kleist, Sustainability Assistant

My name is Tess von Kleist, and I am a junior in CAS studying Environmental Studies and Urban Design and Architecture. My passion for sustainability and the environment grew out of seeing how the beautiful areas that I hiked with my mom were transformed by wildfires and development, and the skylines were clouded with smog. This is why my major is focused on greening the urban environment and building green infrastructure in our community. Outside of school I enjoy thrifting, hiking, and taking the Q down to the beach with my roommates.

Wayne Smith Carino, Sustainability Fellow

Hey, I’m Wayne! I’m a second-year graduate student pursuing a Master of Public Administration with a specialization in International Policy & Management. I received my BSBA in Marketing and Finance with a minor in Economics from Western Carolina University. I became passionate about sustainability through my work at an international NGO conducting ecological restoration in developing countries. My other passions in public service are advancing indigenous knowledge, strengthening citizen empowerment, and creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ peers in public policy. After work I like to play my saxophone, swim, and hike!

Eni Owoeye,

Sustainability Assistant

I’m Eni, a sophomore studying International Relations and Environmental Studies with a minor in Spanish. Environmental justice and sustainable development are my two main areas of interest because I’m interested in looking at how the world would function if there was more equitable food distribution, better civic engagement, and greater geographic diversity in sustainable infrastructure planning.

Carson Hyatt Bandy

Sustainability Assistant

My name is Carson and I’m a senior at NYU studying both Environmental Studies and Global Liberal Studies concentrating in Critical Creative Production. I’m extremely passionate about sustainable agriculture, food waste, and anything involving low waste cooking. Food and agriculture is such an important part of culture and human connection, yet it’s impact on the earth is often overlooked. In my free time I enjoy cooking, watching movies, and exploring New York City with my friends.

Sophia Gumbs, Sustainability Assistant

My name is Sophia Gumbs. I’m a rising second-year studying Environmental Studies and Social & Cultural Analysis with a concentration in Environmental Justice and Environmental Racism. I’m interested in topics ranging from social and environmental justice to sustainability, education, food justice, nutrition, the prison industrial complex, migration, indigenous/afro-descendant land and water rights, creative nonfiction, memoir, and community-based service. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors, exercise, cooking, reading, writing, and I’ve been studying Brazilian Portuguese. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but NYC is my home!
