lightbulbGreen Grants Fund Sustainable Ideas

In 2015, Green Grants allocated $75,000 to fund 7 grant proposals. Grants were awarded to: the NYU Environmental Student Times, which features stories and artwork that celebrates the environment; an energy challenge run by the American Association of Blacks in Energy Tandon chapter; TradeMade, an app to help people trade used goods; Green Generation Feed, a company developing livestock feed from brewing waste; RISE, a platform to buy and sell industrial waste; Sprout Up, an environmental education volunteer program for elementary school students; and Return Recycling, an advanced recycling bin project for select NYU buildings.

Looking forward, NYU Strengthens Climate Commitments

In the last few months of the year, NYU has increased its commitments to acting on climate change. After meeting the PlaNYC Mayoral Carbon Challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the year 2017, 5 years ahead of schedule, we upped our goal to 50% by 2025. Learn more about how we’re achieving our goals here. NYU also joined 218 American Colleges and Universities in a White House pledge for stronger international action on climate change in advance of the Paris Climate negotiations. Finally, NYU has started to work on developing a clean energy proposal as part of Governor Cuomo’s REV Campus Challenge. Learn more about the early brainstorming process here.

In the Office of Sustainability, we are excited to work with members of our community to continue to make NYU a more sustainable place and a leading environmental institution in 2016. How will you be #GreenIn2016?
